The other contrast between these stories is the settings of the background setting of these stories and from good review of these stories. It is clear to note that these two stories were written in different eras thus making it the setting and characters behaviors different be come different. The story “The Child by Tiger” by Thomas Wolfe was written during the slave trade era in the United States of America; this is clearly experienced in the stories when the black slave in this story Dick Prosser was subjected to a lot of ill treatment to the extent of affecting his emotions and attitude towards the white Americans. This is when he was punched by a drunk driver who was driving his car in a reckless manner and in the process hitting his car and he had no right to react to the punch because it would land him to a lot of problems he therefore had to cool down and absorb the pain and harsh treatment that was being subjected to him (Wolfe, 2009).
In the story “Young Goodman Brown” by Nathaniel Hawthorne the writing of the story was in the 18th century; this is why there was the use of horses as the main means of transport the use of the Latin language used in the story was also another indicator of the era in which the story was written (Hawthorne, 2009).The story also indicates the passion that he main character in the story had in his wife Faith; who according to me was a literary device used by the writer to demonstrate the faith that the character had in his religion and he will do anything in order to fully achieve and satisfy his fait in his religion.
