Custom Curriculum Development in Independent Schools essay paper sample

Buy custom Curriculum Development in Independent Schools essay paper cheap

Quality of education in Independent schools is compromised when private institutions are allowed to set their own curriculum.

Human resource development draws its solidity from sound education systems. Schools have a bigger role in training and delivering a reliable manpower. It is therefore important to put limits and set boundaries to guide the formulation and implementation of educational policies. It is also justified for a country which is conscious enough about establishing authority over education to regulate the way in which its schools are managed. It is to ensure that all efforts are geared towards the realization of its vision and mission as far as manpower is concerned. This leads us to two important aspects of education quality control known as supervision and curriculum development. The management approach with which a school is managed largely depends on the type of the school. Those which fall in the category of public schools are controlled by the national governments while private schools, which are also known as Independent schools, have a control over their decision making through the boards of directors.

The Independent Schools Council writes that the number of Independent schools has been on the rise in many countries across the world. They are established and run by individuals or organizations without much influence from national governments or local authorities particularly in terms of finances. The majority of such schools generate their funds through the fees they charge the students. Others have endowment funds. Despite such a departure from public authorities, independent schools educate and release students to same community which the governments exercise their jurisdictions. Through a number of legislations, the national governments deliberately outline the extent to which they can intervene in private schools affairs.

Unlike in public schools, government officials are not involved in running the operations of Independent schools. Supervision in Independent schools is carried by the directors who make major decisions and issue final directives. Such instructions are tailor-made to meet the goals and aspirations of the founders. However, such self regulation is guided by the operating license conditions. Independent schools are periodically inspected by the national governments to enforce conformity to regulations. Supervision of Independent schools can thus be said to be done indirectly by national governments (Miron, 2003).

Every parent seeking education for his or her child is guided by the content and mode of knowledge delivery when looking for a school. These qualities are summarized in a curriculum outline. The curriculum is carefully developed by education providers after a thorough research to establish the latest needs and trends in a subject area. To stay relevant, an Independent school should continually update its curriculum. This approach of flexibility has made Independent schools very attractive to many who seek education. Education delivery can also be made more appropriate by giving schools the autonomy to custom develop curriculum to specifically address the needs of some classes of students. This model of curriculum development is gaining popularity across the world as most Independent schools find it fashionable. After carrying out a study, such a model of school-level curriculum is developed by reorganizing and merging it with other national curriculums.

The growing concern for most education providers is to change their roles in capacity building practice to a money making process. This has also played a major role in the development of guidelines to develop Independent schools’ curriculum. A curriculum which suits many students is the most ideal because the more the students the more the money. From an optimist point of view, a large population of students will serve to improve the quality of education in the long run (Morrison, 2007).

Independent schools can execute a correct combination of global as well as national based programs in a bid to improve learning standards. However, there are several challenges facing Independent schools working on this development because those who are responsible for formulation and implementation could be lacking professionalism and expertise.

There is no particular way of helping Independent schools to develop or improve their curriculum. However, a provision of general guidelines and regular assessment will go a long way in escalating curriculum development both in the eyes of educational investors and general public. Professional development is going to help school owners and administrators to attain relevant skills to help in building an all inclusive curriculum.
